Turin Airport to Lake Viverone: the short version
Lake Viverone has no airport of its own. A practical route from Turin Airport (TRN) in Caselle is a suburban train to Turin, a regional train toward Ivrea, and then a bus to the lake villages. The other option is a car from the airport, which suits anyone who wants to see more than one place.
The lake lies between Biella, Ivrea and Vercelli, so the last stretch is always by bus or car. Once you are here, the lake works well as a base for Piedmont wine tours and day trips, and the right transport depends on how many of those trips you plan.

Ways to reach the lake compared
Four options, with what each one suits. Timetables and fares change, so check them for your date.
| Route | Good for | What to know | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Train to Ivrea, then bus 358 | Travellers without a car who stay in one village | Suburban train from the airport to Turin, change at Porta Susa for regional trains toward Ivrea, then the bus | Some trains toward Ivrea run at changed times until 12 December 2026 |
| Car from the airport | Combining the lake with Masino, Candelo and Oropa | From the lake to Castello di Masino is about 30 minutes via SS/SP 228, Azeglio and Caravino | Blue paid parking along the shore in Viverone |
| Bus 358 around the area | Short hops between Ivrea, Piverone, Viverone, Roppolo and Anzasco | Run by ATAP, with Ivrea as the rail connection | Check the current timetable and fares before you go |
| Lake boat | A short trip between Lido, Anzasco and Masseria | €6 for adults, €2 for children up to 6, paid on board | The Masseria stop needs a phone reservation |
For most travellers who want to see several places around the lake, a car gives the most freedom, because Masino, Candelo and Oropa lie in different directions. If you stay in one village and add Ivrea or Biella as day trips, train and bus can work well.

From Turin Airport (TRN) step by step
The rail route in four parts.
1. Airport to Turin
Suburban trains run between the airport and Turin. The ride takes about 30 minutes, which is the stretch between the city and the airport, not the whole journey to the lake.
2. Change at Porta Susa
Regional trains toward Ivrea or Biella can be reached with a change at Porta Susa. Until 12 December 2026, works between Torino Stura and Chivasso change some timetables. On some regional trains from Turin toward Ivrea the departure from Porta Nuova and Porta Susa is about 5 minutes earlier, with some exceptions. Check your connection again before you travel.
3. Ivrea to the lake by bus
From Ivrea, bus line 358 runs through Piverone and also serves Viverone, Roppolo and Anzasco. Plan the last stretch by bus and do not count on a train stop at the lake itself. See Ivrea for the town and the lake villages for where the bus takes you.
Milan Malpensa Airport to Lake Viverone
If your flight lands in Milan instead.
Plan it leg by leg
If your flight lands at Milan Malpensa (MXP), do not plan around a direct train or bus to the lake. Look up each leg in the current timetables and expect at least one change. A rental car for the whole route avoids the changes.
Distances and times
Road times from Malpensa or from Turin depend on the route and the traffic. Use a route planner for your travel date and add time for parking at the lake.
Heading on to Aosta
The rail line between Ivrea and Aosta is closed and replacement buses run. The closure is expected to end between 13 December 2026 and January 2027, so the date is open. Check before you plan a connection.
By car, parking and the lake boat
What to know once you are in the area.
Driving to Masino
Castello di Masino is about 30 minutes from the lake via SS/SP 228, Azeglio and Caravino, and about 45 minutes from Turin Airport. The airport time is for the castle, not for the lake. The usual motorway route uses the A4 and A5, with exits near Albiano and Scarmagno on the A5. See Castello di Masino.
Parking in Viverone
The parking places along the shore are blue zones with a fee. The municipality's €10.70 annual pass, valid until 31 December 2026, is for residents and not for tourists. Residents' passes work by number plate since 1 April 2026. Visitors should check the signs and machines at the car park for the rate.
The lake boat
The lake boat stops at Lido, Anzasco and Masseria. Adults pay €6, children up to 6 pay €2, and you pay on board. Masseria is served only after a phone reservation. In October the boat also runs on Saturday and Sunday afternoons, and from November to March on Sunday afternoons if the weather allows. Groups can arrange trips. Check the current schedule before you go, and see the beaches for where to swim.
